What does the date printed on the package mean?

This date is the last day we guarantee our products to meet our high standards for taste and quality.

What does this information printed on the package mean: BEST BEFORE DEC 29 04 L1 03:42 AU

It is the code date we use to identify the plant that produced the product, the expiration date of the product, and the production line and time. This information helps us for traceability purposes.

Does Mission Foods use Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) in their products?

There is no MSG in any Mission products except the Mission Extreme Cheese Tortilla Triangles, Mission Cheesy Nachos Tortilla Triangles and Mission Chilli and Lime Tortilla Triangles.

Why does Mission Foods use preservatives?

Preservatives help protect the flavour and the freshness of our products. We use only the minimum amount of preservatives necessary to provide the product its shelf life.

Does Mission Foods use genetically modified ingredients?

Mission Foods do not use genetically modified ingredients in any of its products. We have a stringent process of checks with our suppliers to ensure that all ingredients are non-genetically modified.

Which products contain soy ingredients?

The following products contain Soy ingredients: Mission Multigrain Tortillas, Mission Chilli and Lime Chips, Mission Extreme Cheese Chips, Mission Low Carb Wraps, Mission Spinach and Herb Low Carb Wraps. All of our wraps and tortillas may contain traces of Soy.

Which products contain milk ingredients?

We have several products containing Milk ingredients: Mission Extreme Cheese Tortilla Triangles, Mission Cheesy Nachos Chips, Mission Round Plain Pizza Base, Mission Round Garlic & Herb Pizza Base, Mission Traditional Pita.

Do any of Mission Foods products contain ingredients from animal sources?

We have several products containing ingredients from animal sources: Mission Extreme Cheese Tortilla Triangles, Mission Cheesy Nachos Tortilla Triangles, Mission Round Plain Pizza Base, Mission Round Garlic Pizza Base and Mission Traditional Pita.

Is there a potential for cross-contamination of corn products with wheat ingredients?

All Mission Foods plants have strict food safety programs in place, including a very comprehensive Allergen Control Program.

Is there any wheat, rye, barley, or oats in corn tortillas?

No. Mission corn tortillas do not contain wheat, rye, barley, or oat ingredients.

Do any of your products contain any of the major ten allergen foods?

Mission Foods products do not contain any of the following ingredients: peanuts, crustacea, fish or tree nuts.

Does Mission Foods use partially hydrogenated oils?

No, we discontinued the use of partially hydrogenated oils.

Is wheat used in any way to make the corn products?

There are no wheat ingredients or incidental wheat present in the products or on the lines that produce corn products.

Are wheat flour tortillas produced in the same lines as corn products?

No, our corn production lines are dedicated to corn products only. Wheat flour tortillas are produced on dedicated lines.

Are Mission Foods products gluten free?

We do not add any ingredients that contain gluten into the following products: Mission Regular Taco Shells, Mission White Corn Tortilla Strips, Mission Yellow Corn Strips Chips, Mission White Corn Tortillas, Mission Extreme Cheese Corn Chips and Mission Chilli and Lime Corn Chips and Mission Gluten Free Wraps.

Are Mission Foods plastic bags recyclable?

No. We are not able to recycle this material in Australia.

How do I open the brown bag Mission tortilla chips?

Cut along the dotted line with scissors. Open top carefully. When done, fold the bag a few times and use a chip clip to keep bag sealed tightly.

Is it okay to freeze flour tortillas?

Freeze immediately and use within 3 months. Defrost thoroughly before use. Do not refreeze after defrosting.

Which Mission products contain Gluten?

The following all contain Gluten (Wheat, Rye, Barley and/or Oat): All Mission Tortillas (except Corn), Mission Wraps, Mission Pita Breads, Mission Lebanese Breads, Mission Pizza Bases and Mission Naan Bread.

What is the difference between a burrito, soft taco, and fajita size tortilla?

The difference is only in the diameter. A burrito is approximately 8” to 10” and a soft taco is apprximately 6”.

What are the sizes available in corn tortillas?

The typical corn tortilla size available in all markets is 6” diameter.

What is the shelf life of Mission Products?

The shelf life of our Mission products varies depending on their formulation and storage conditions. Following is the typical shelf life of Mission products stored at ambient temperature (unopened package):

  • Flour tortillas - 9 months
  • Corn tortilla - 5 months
  • Mini Wrap Original - 90 days
  • Whole wheat Mini Wrap - 90 days
  • Wraps - 90 days, except Low GI - 4 months
  • Taco shells - 6 months
  • Taco seasoning mix - 12 months
  • Pita bread - 90 days
  • Lebanese bread - 90 days
  • Naan Breads - 9 months
  • Pizza Bases - 90 days
  • Salsas - 24 months (unopened)

How long can tortillas be kept at ambient temperature after I buy them?

The tortillas can be left at ambient temperature and consumable up until the date printed on the package, if unopened.

How long can we keep the tortillas after opening the package?

It depends on the handling conditions the product was exposed to. If you are not going to consume the whole package after opening it, wash your hands, remove the amount of tortillas required and place the remainder in an air tight container. The product should be consumed within 3 days under refrigerated conditions.

What happens to tortillas after their shelf life has expired?

They may grow mould and become dry.

What is the difference between a wrap and a flour tortilla?

Wraps are a sandwich with a twist; they are larger than a regular tortilla and come in a variety of flavours. Great for appetizers and party snacks.
